This was the first week that students attended school face to face for two days. The children adjust very well. They even enjoyed the different play areas for recess. In addition students learned that some of them will be moved to a different math and reading class. Those classes will begin on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Parents were notified by the school's CST, Ms. Michaela Rousseaux. If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Rousseaux.
In addition, students presented their small moment writing assignments. We could see how a lot of the students were able to provide lots of details and bring the characters to life in their writing. They were really surprised by each other's writing. I notice a few things we need to work on as a class. Some of the things I noted were capitalization, punctuation, and providing details that stick to the story. Overall, the students did a nice job. Progress reports will be available soon. Please look for those dates along with conferencing dates in your email.
The schedule has changed for face to face learning. If you look under the home tab at the schedule you will see the updated times. In addition, students that have opted for face to face learning, but decide to hop online for the day will still be marked absent. However, it will be an excused absence. This is to help keep track of who is in the building.
Advance Math students are quickly approaching the end of the 2nd grade math curriculum. They only have two more units. The current unit is on geometry and fractions. On Level math students are moving into addition fluency, adding with regrouping, and subtraction with regrouping. In reading, students will begin working on nonfiction reading materials and nonfiction writing materials. Students will create their own nonfiction book. I look forward to sharing them with you. Again, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
